Birds of Prey

Eagles, hawks, owls, kestrels, harriers and kites! They’re all here in our fabulous gallery of vintage birds of prey illustrations. Skillfully executed by 19th and 20th-century orthonologists and biologists, this gallery is full of beautiful chromolithographs and watercolors. Most of the artworks you see here are by Elizabeth Gould, an inspiring British scientific artist and mother, who worked with her husband John to produce some of the best-known ornithological publications of the time (the Australian Gouldian finch is named after her).

These vintage bird of prey images are all in the public domain, so they’re completely free for you to download and use as you wish. We’ll keep adding more as we explore what’s available, so sign up to our mailing list to stay tuned!
